Why It All Matters

Contrary to what your parents may have wanted, I gave you your dessert first. It’s true. The reason why any of this matters, and why it pays to keep going, is because of everyone that happens to see, hear, or read what you put into this world. Now, it’s time to add that nutritional value.

Nobody Really Cares

Unfortunately, that’s what I thought about putting out videos and content. I know this seems depressing, but at some level, this is what I truly believed. Around February I ended up using this as an excuse when I lost that wave of motivation. Before that, I was on a roll. I had at least 4-5 videos out every week just doing what I knew I had to do; but at some point, after getting no comments, no likes, no “oh that was a good video”, I started to feel like no one watched, and really cared for that matter. I do have to say that right around that time I was also big on saving money, and still am, so I didn’t get any paid advertising. Now if you’ve been following your passion or building something from the ground up, you’ve probably realized that it’s a trade off. You either spend that effort reaching out personally, or you pay for an ad to do it for you. I didn’t feel that it was essential to budget for it, but I also didn’t want to put in the effort to do it manually. I’m sure you see the problem. Either way, as much of a contributing factor this was to not getting “seen”, I didn’t keep putting up the new content to be “seen”.

I Can’t Tell If I’m Doing This Right

It went on like this for about a month, only putting up like 2 videos. I told myself, “I’m going to re-brand my channel, and make it more music related.” If you look at my YouTube Channel, it’s filled with motivational videos, mainly because that was my biggest challenge in taking that plunge, and also keeping up with it. Even for that, I  still felt I needed to better showcase my music talent, because at the end of the day, the goal is to help artists, create a bond, and give value. This way, if you’re ever in the market to buy a beat, you think of ME! Like I said, that was the plan, but in the real world, I think I just positioned myself as a motivational speaker who did music on the side; not the other way around, which is what I intended.

Everything is Pulling Me Away

Still, more and more things ended up taking me farther away from my intentions as well. I ended up doing some work on mixing my friend’s album “Duck Confit”,  coming out 4/1/15. It should be posted to his Soundcloud, so be on the lookout for that. I also started to diet down for the summer, and if you aren’t aware, trying to lose 20-30 pounds again takes some effort, both mentally and physically. It came down to my priorities being shifted. Putting out content was not high on my list anymore.

But You Never Know Who’s Watching

It went on like this until recently when one day a person I went to college with messaged me on Facebook. He said, “How’s everything going, I haven’t seen you post anything lately.” He definitely didn’t say anything life changing, but reading that last part meant that when I thought that no one cared or no one was watching, someone was. When I thought that it didn’t matter if I missed putting out content, someone noticed.

Why It All Matters

I was watching this webinar put on by the Empower Network and one of the guys said, “You are like a business. If you go to a bank during the business hours and it’s closed, you would be mad. If people can’t trust that you will be there to give content and value, then why go back to you or that bank?” I think it summed my problem up beautifully. The interaction and all the things I think I’m missing out on come with time, so why don’t I FOCUS on the interaction and all the things I have now? Have you ever encountered this in your business? Was this something that took time to realize?
